Augustana finished the game shooting 42.2 percent (27 of 64) from the field while hitting 12 of 30 (40 percent) from behind the arc.

The Vikings forced Winona State into 19 turnovers and allowed the Warriors to shoot just two free throws. Winona State out-rebounded Augustana 40-30 marking only the third time this season the Vikings have lost the battle on the boards.

Both teams got off to a slow start in the first half stifling each other on the defensive end through the midway point of the first half. Jansen tied the game at 11-11 hitting one of two free throws with 11:30 remaining in the first frame allowing the Vikings to eventually take the lead for good in the half.

Augustana went on a 19-8 run over the next 9:31 of the first half to build a 29-19 lead. The Vikings started to find their touch from behind the arc during the run with Brazendale coming off the bench and knocking down 2 of 3 triples in the half.

Augustana quickly built its lead to 14 when Jansen knocked down a 3-pointer on the first possession of the second half but the shot wouldn't be contagious as the Warriors were able to cut Augustana's lead down to eight at 39-31 with 16:16 to play after a couple quick scores by Corey Jeffs and Mark Blacklock.

Spencer answered the quick-strike by the Warriors with a pair of free throws over the next two minutes to help the Vikings push the lead back up to 14 but the Warriors would not go away quietly. Kyle Bauman hit a 3-pointer with 7:01 to play to bring WSU within eight at 58-50.

That would be as close as it would get as the Vikings turned up the pressure going on a 15-6 run immediately following the Bauman 3-pointer pushing their lead all the way up to 17 at 73-56 with just over two minutes to play in the game.

The win for the Vikings evened the all-time series between the two schools at 11-11. Augustana has now won three of the last four meetings between the two teams improving to 3-6 all-time in games played in Winona, Minn.

Augustana will return to action tomorrow night traveling to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa at 6 p.m.
