SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana University (16-5, 10-5 NSIC) made 10, 3-pointers as they battled back thanks to a strong third-quarter to defeat the University of Mary (11-12, 5-10 NSIC) 85-73 Saturday afternoon at the Sioux Falls Arena.
After a strong first-half from U-Mary, they shot 51 percent in the half and ended the second-quarter on a 22-6 run, it was an electric third-quarter for the Vikings that propelled them to victory.
The Vikings came out firing in the third-quarter, erasing a 15-point lead to tie the game at 50 thanks to a 3-point play from sophomore
Paige Peterson before U-Mary took the lead back at 54-50, but a
Logan O'Farrell triple would cut the lead to one going into the final quarter. The Vikings outscored the Marauders 28-14 in the third.
The Vikings took their first lead since the first-quarter when Peterson found Rome for a triple to make the score 56-54. From the point on the Viking never looked back. They shot 50 percent from the field in the fourth-quarter and 66 percent from behind the 3-point arc.
VIKING OF NOTESydney Rome had a fantastic game against the Marauders with a team-high 20-points. Rome was 6-of-13 from the behind the 3-point arc. Her six 3-points was one off her career-high of seven set against Midland University back on Dec. 29, 2015. Rome added three rebounds and four assists.
