SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana University football (4-2, 1-1 NSIC South) returns home this Saturday, Oct. 15 for the annual Viking Days homecoming game. The Vikings will take on Minnesota State University, Mankato (4-2, 1-1 NSIC) with kickoff set for 1 p.m. at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
The Vikings will be looking to clear some space in the tightly-packed top-half of the NSIC South Division. Augustana is one of four South Division teams entering the second week of divisional play at 1-1. Augustana, Minnesota State, Southwest Minnesota State are all 1-1 in divisional play.
Augustana is coming off of a road win over Wayne State last weekend. The Vikings defeated the Wildcats 44-31 and put up over 400 yards of offense for the sixth straight game. Augustana enters Saturday's game ranked fifth in the NSIC and 20th in the country averaging 478.5 yards of total offense.
The Vikings are averaging a league-best 43.0 points per game in 2016, which is the fifth-best total in the country. The passing attack, led by senior quarterback
Trey Heid, ranks second in the NSIC and 10th in the country at 328.7 yards per game. Senior wide receiver
Matt Heller is averaging a league-high 132.8 receiving yards per game. Heller also leads the NSIC and ranks third in the country with 10 touchdown receptions in 2016.
Minnesota State enters Saturday's game averaging 33.5 points per game. The Mavericks are averaging 419.5 yards of offense per game, including 230.7 yards through the air. MSU has allowed 20.3 points per game and 359.3 yards of offense.
