Machacek Breaks School Wins Record in Comeback Victory on Senior Day

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana soccer earned a wild victory against Bemidji State on Saturday using two second half goals to defeat the Beavers, 2-1. With the victory junior goalkeeper Taylor Machacek moves into first place on Augustana's career victories list with 27 wins. Augustana improves to 8-4-1 (7-2-1 NSIC) on the season.

Bemidji State got the scoring started with a goal in the 12th minute in the first half. The first half belonged to the Beavers as they outshot Augustana 7-5 and had five shots on goal compared to two by the Vikings.

The momentum started to shift in the Vikings favor in the second half after Samantha Tymkowicz scored in the 50th minute after a long pass from Ellie Knowles to tie the match up at one.

Augustana continued to put pressure on Bemidji State and in the 87th minute Samantha Schorzman took a pass from Hannah Keirstead and fired it right passed the goalkeepers outreached hands.

In the second half Augustana outshot Bemidji State 14-7 and had five shots on goal compared to just one by the Beavers.

The Vikings continue to be a second half team. With the two goals scored in the second half Augustana has now outscored opponents in the second half 19-8.

Tymkowicz led the Vikings offensively firing six shots with two shots on goal. Tymkowicz extended her team lead in goals with her fifth goal on the season. Schorzman and Mackenzie Main each had four shots.

Defensively, Machacek was stout in goal with five saves on 14 Beaver shot attempts. Keirstead continuously put pressure on Bemidji State from her defensive position and also got involved on the offensive end with her first assist of the season.

Augustana returns to action on Sunday with a matchup against Minnesota Crookston at 1 p.m. at Morstad Field.
