SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana University football (3-2, 0-1 NSIC South) will hit the road for an NSIC South Division clash against Wayne State College (2-3, 1-0 NSIC South) on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Vikings and Wildcats will square-off at Bob Cunningham Field at Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m.
Saturday's game will be the 17th all-time meeting between Augustana and Wayne State. The Vikings are 9-7-1 all-time against the Wildcats and will look for their third straight victory over Wayne State. Augustana defeated Wayne State 50-19 at Kirkeby-Over Stadium on Oct. 17 of last season. In 2014, Augustana came out of Memorial Stadium with a 52-48 victory behind a record-setting performance by
Trey Heid.
Heid set a single game school record tossing for six touchdowns while also breaking an NCAA record for most touchdowns in a quarter. Heid threw five of his six touchdown passes in the second quarter alone which was the most by an NCAA Division II player since Valdosta State's Dusty Bonner threw five in a quarter on Nov. 4, 2000.
The Vikings enter the weekend ranked sixth in the NSIC averaging 478.2 yards of offense per game. Augustana is averaging 42.8 points per game which ranks second in the NSIC and 10th in the country. Augustana has the 11th-best passing attack in the country averaging 328.8 yards per game through the air.
Heid enters Saturday's game needing just 82 passing yards to become Augustana's all-time career leader. In doing so, he'll become Augustana's career leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns and total offense.
