Women's basketball cruises to an 86-60 win over Dordt College

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana University women's basketball team (3-2) found their rhythm in the second half and cruised to an 86-60 victory over Dordt College Friday night in the Elmen Center.

Augustana started the night out slow, not picking up their first bucket until almost three minutes into the game on a Naomi Rust layup. Just a the Vikings started slow so did Dordt, not scoring their second basket till the seven-minute mark. After each team got a couple points the two teams went on a scoring frenzy for a few minutes. Augustana tied the game at 17 within the first seven seconds of the quarter but again went cold from the field. The Vikings didn't score again until Logan O'Farrell knocked down two free throws with 7:12 remaining in the half. As Dordt built an eight-point lead at 31-23, Allie Koehn caught fire from behind the arc, knocking down back-to-back triples. Before Koehn got hot Augustana was 1-19 from behind the arc. The Vikings used Koehn's spark to end the quarter on a 12-0 run, going into the break with a 35-31 lead.

Augustana used the momentum they gained at the end of the second quarter to build a quick seven-point lead early in the third. After two free throws from Lynsey Prosser gave them a nine-point lead, senior Sydney Rome drained a three to give the Vikings their first double-digit lead of the night at 48-36. Augustana was able to extend their lead to 14 by the end of the quarter and entered the final quarter of the game with a 54-40 lead.

The Vikings started the final frame of the night with seven straight points to take a 21-point lead. The Vikings kept their foot on the pedal as Prosser knocked down Augustana's 10th three-pointer of the game to make it 73-49. Augustana didn't allow Dordt to get any closer than 23-points the rest of the night, as they earned an 86-60 win.
