SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana University football is set to close-out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 12 taking on Southwest Minnesota State University on the road. The Vikings and Mustangs will get underway at 1 p.m. at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center in Marshall, Minnesota.
Augustana enters the regular season finale at 7-3 on the season, including 4-2 in South Division play. The Vikings will secure the third straight winning season on Saturday. Southwest Minnesota State is 5-5 in 2016, 2-4 in the South Division.
Saturday's game will feature two of the top offenses in the country. Augustana, ranked 10th in this week's NCAA Super Region Three rankings, ranks ninth in the country averaging 43.1 points per game, eighth in total offense (516.5 yards per game) and third in passing (350.3 yards per game). SMSU ranks 24th in total offense, 26th in passing and 30th in scoring.
Senior quarterback
Trey Heid has set single season records at Augustana for passing touchdowns and yards. He leads the NSIC and ranks second in the country with 37 touchdown passes in 2016 and ranks fourth in the country with 3,299 passing yards.
Wide receiver
Matt Heller has also re-written the record book this season. Heller has hauled in a single season record 18 touchdown passes to go along with a record 1,372 receiving yards. He became Augustana's all-time leader in touchdown catches last week at Concordia-St. Paul and enters the regular season finale with 35 in his career. Heller is 270 yards shy of the career receiving yards record.
Augustana has set single season offense records in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015 and are on pace to extend those numbers again in 2016. The Vikings enter Saturday's game 363 yards shy of a new single season total offense record, 82 passing yards shy of a new single season record and five touchdowns shy of a new record.
