Men's basketball opens regular season at the Southwestern Oklahoma State Classic

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 18 Augustana University men's basketball will open the 2016-17 regular season this Friday and Saturday with a pair of games at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Classic in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The Vikings will take on tournament-host Southwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 before squaring-off against East Central University at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

AUGUSTANA IN SEASON OPENERS
• The 2016-17 season marks the 95th season of men's basketball at Augustana
• Augustana is 47-47 all-time in season openers since 1921-22
• Augustana did not play basketball during the 1943-44 season due to World War II
• Augustana lost its season opener last season, falling 88-86 to Washburn in Las Vegas

LAST TIME OUT
• Augustana opened the 2016-17 season with an exhibition game at historic Cameron Indoor Stadium against Duke on Friday, Nov. 4
• Duke shot 42 free throws in the exhibition contest and defeated the Vikings 98-45 in front of 9,314 fans
Mike Busack led Augustana in scoring with 11 points, finishing the night 4 of 9 from the field, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range
Adam Beyer and Lucas Walford each added nine points for the Vikings
Jordan Spencer pitched in with four points to go along with four rebounds and seven assists
• Augustana shot 31 percent from the field and was 7 of 29 from 3-point range. The Vikings shot just six free throws in the contest

SERIES HISTORY
• Augustana will play Southwestern Oklahoma State and East Central University for the first time in program history this weekend
• SWOSU finished 17-12 last season and was bounced from the Great American Conference tournament in the first round in a season-ending loss (83-82) to Southern Arkansas
• East Central advanced to the semifinals of the GAC Tournament last season
• East Central lost in the semifinals to Ouachita Baptist by a score of 83-80
