Women's basketball thumps Marauders on the road

BISMARCK, N.D. -  Augustana (10-2, 5-0 NSIC) picked up their ninth consecutive win Saturday night after earning a 34-point victory over the University of Mary (6-7, 1-4 NSIC) by a score of 88-54.

The University of Mary got on the board first but Augustana scored four straight to take an early 4-2 lead. A few minutes later the Marauders regained the lead at 9-7. With the lead U-Mary controlled the rest of the quarter, taking a 15-11 into the second-quarter.

The second-quarter started just like the previous quarter had ended, with U-Mary controlling the game. The Marauders were able to get their largest lead of the half at eight with a score of 29-21. But a three-pointer by Lynsey Prosser flipped the momentum towards the Vikings and Augustana went on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to just one. Augustana took the lead at 33-31 when Presley O'Farrell hit a triple. Augustana then blew the game open at the end of the quarter, using a 13-0 run that was highlighted by a Hana Metoxen, corner three at the buzzer that gave Augustana a 41-31 lead at the break.

Early in the third-quarter the two teams traded buckets until it was 47-38 Vikings. After Sydney Rome buried a three-pointer, Augustana went on an 8-0 run to jump out to a 55-38 lead. Augustana continued to add on to their lead, taking a 20-point advantage into the final quarter.

The Vikings entered the fourth with a 65-45 advantage and never took their foot off the pedal. Augustana earned their largest lead of 34-points with 1:53 left in the game and walked away with an 88-54 victory to close out their North Dakota road trip.

Viking of the Game
Naomi Rust had a career night, scoring 17-points on 8-of-12 shooting. The junior bested her previous career-high by four points. Rust added one rebound and one assist to her totals.

• Prosser joined Rust with scoring 17-points
• Five Vikings reached double-figures: Rust (17), Prosser (17), Logan (14), Presley (10) and Rome (10)
• Rome led the team with six assists
Paige Peterson led the team with eight boards
• The Vikings shot 48 percent from deep and 47 percent from the field
• Augustana improved their all-time record against U-MAry to 13-3
• This was the Vikings ninth straight win over the Marauders
• When the game is played in Bismarck, N.D. Augustana is now 6-2

Up Next
Augustana will be on the road one last time before the holiday break. The Vikings will travel to Wayne, Neb. to take on the Wildcats at 4 p.m. on Dec. 17.
