Men's basketball cruises past Wayne State for blowout win

WAYNE, Neb. - The Augustana men's basketball team took care of business Saturday night, picking up a 33-point victory over Wayne State. The Vikings were led by sophomore John Warren who had a career-high 30-points in the Vikings victory.

Augustana started out the game firing on all cylinders as they scored the first nine points of the game. A few possessions later with the Vikings leading 14-4 Wayne State went on an 11-0 run to take a one-point advantage. Augustana quickly grabbed the lead right back after John Warren knocked down a triple.

Midway through first half the Wildcats took their last lead of the game at 19-17. After trailing by two, Augustana took control of the game as they built a lead to double-digit lead in just two minutes of tying the game. The Vikings went into the locker room with a 42-31 lead.

Out of the locker room Wayne State scored first but just like the end of the first half, Augustana scored at will once they settled into the game. The Vikings reached 50 points in the game after Zach Huisken made a layup. The Vikings kept scoring as Warren and Jordan Spencer went back-to-back from three to give the Vikings a 59-40 lead midway through the half.

Augustana's lead reach 21 with 10 minutes left in the half and the Vikings didn't allow the Wildcats to get any closer. Augustana ended up winning the contest 93-60.

Viking of the Game
John Warren played the best game of his young career Saturday night. Warren set a new career-high with 30-points on an impressive 11-of-14 shooting. Warren also knocked down a career best seven three pointers. Warren also finished with four rebounds and one assists.

• Augustana improved to 28-14 all-time against Wayne State
• Three Vikings reached double-figures: Warren (30), Spencer (19) and Schaefer (10)
• Spencer led the team in rebounds with seven
• The Vikings shot 62 percent from behind the three-point line and 62 percent from the field
• In the second half Augustana shot 78 percent from three ad 71 percent from the field
• The Vikings forced 16 turnovers
• Augustana improved to 5-1 in NSIC play

Up Next
Augustana will have one game left before the holiday break. The Vikings will host Doane College Monday, Dec. 19 at the Elmen Center with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.  Admission for that contest will be free for everyone.
