Jansen becomes NSIC's all-time leading scorer in win over SMSU Friday night

MARSHALL, Minn. – Daniel Jansen scored a game-high 26 points and became the all-time leading scorer in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in No. 5 Augustana's 103-88 road win over Southwest Minnesota State on Friday night. Augustana (21-2, 18-1 NSIC) shot a season-high 64.9 percent from the field in tonight's win over the Mustangs (12-12, 8-11 NSIC).

After shooting a blistering 81.5 percent from the field in the first half, Augustana shot 50 percent (15 of 30) in the second. The 103-point performance marks Augustana's fifth game scoring over 100 points this season.

Jansen has now scored 1,464 points in 85 career Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games and sits atop the league's all-time leading scorers. Jansen passed former teammate Cameron McCaffrey to take over No. 1 all-time. Augustana has the top three scorers in NSIC history with Jansen (1,464), McCaffrey (1,455) and Cody Schilling (1,394).

Casey Schilling finished with 25 points on 9 of 14 shooting and hit 6 of 7 from the free throw line. Augustana had five players in double-figures for the first time since Nov. 13.

Jordan Spencer pitched in with 17 points and seven assists knocking down 5 of 6 3-pointers while John Warren matched his season-high with 14 points hitting three from behind the arc. Warren has scored 14 points in both games against SMSU this season and has hit seven 3-pointers in those games.

Both teams started out the first few minutes of the contest hot as the Vikings and Mustangs each hit seven of their first eight shots of the night. The two teams played to a 16-16 tie through the first six minutes of the half until the Vikings caught fire from 3-point range to break open a lead.

The Vikings hit eight 3-pointers over the next seven-plus minutes to build a 10-point lead at 46-36 with 6:24 remaining in the half. Four different players hit a 3-pointer for the Vikings in the first half, including three from Spencer and Jansen.

Augustana closed-out the first half on an 18-8 run to build a 20-point halftime lead at 64-44. The Vikings hit 10 free throws during the run while limiting SMSU to just three field goals.

The second half started the same way as the first with both teams matching each other point-for-point but the Vikings held a 14-13 edge through five-plus minutes to extend their lead to 21 at 78-57 after Richter converted a 3-point-play.

SMSU would not go away quietly as the Mustangs went on a 16-6 run during a three minute stretch to cut Augustana's lead to 11 at 84-73 with 10:07 remaining in the game.
