No. 20 Augustana softball drops heartbreaker to Central Missouri on Saturday

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Central Missouri(7-7) picked up three of its six hits and the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to help the Jennies to a 1-0 win over No. 20 Augustana University softball (7-7) on Saturday afternoon.

Augustana finished the game with six hits but left nine runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the top of the second.

Carly Peterson, Sarah Kennedy and Karlee Koopman accounted for all six of Augustana's hits, each finishing with two. Kennedy had Augustana's only extra base hit of the game with a one-out double in the sixth.

Koopman had a strong showing in the circle for the Vikings while suffering her fourth season holding UCM to just one run on six hits while striking out three.

After leaving the bases loaded in the second, Augustana put together another threat in the top of the sixth when Kennedy started a one-out rally with a double to left field. Koopman followed with a single to move Kennedy into scoring position at third but UCM's Emily Robinson got Abby Chandler to pop into a double play with the bases loaded to end the threat.

The Jennies got right to work on the offensive end getting back-to-back singles from Alexis Koop and Lauren Mabe. Emily Robinson followed with UCM's third straight single to drive in Mabe to give the Jennies a 1-0 lead.

Koopman was able to get out of the inning without any further damage to give her team a chance at the plate down just one. Peterson led off the inning with a single up the middle but Carley Pickett lined out sharply to first base and the Vikings were down to their final out.

Robinson was able to get Shannon Petersen to ground out back to the circle to end the threat and the game.

Augustana will play two more games in St. Cloud on Sunday. The Vikings will take on Emporia State at 8 a.m. Sunday before closing-out the five-game trip against Missouri Western at 12:30 p.m.
