FRISCO, Texas – No. 2 Augustana University men's basketball (33-2) is set to take on No. 1 Lincoln Memorial University in the NCAA Division II National Championship game on Saturday, March 26. The Vikings and Hilltoppers (34-2) will tip-off at 2 p.m. (CT) at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live nationally on CBS (KELO-TV) in Sioux Falls. Augustana will be playing for its first ever men's basketball National Championship. Augustana has won two team national championships in school history, including the women's cross country title in 2011 and softball in 1991.
Saturday's game will be the first ever meeting between Augustana and Lincoln Memorial. The Vikings defeated Western Oregon 74-55 on Thursday to advance to the National Championship game. Augustana is 15-15 all-time in the NCAA Tournament entering Saturday afternoon's game.
When the Vikings and Hilltoppers square-off on Saturday, it will be just the second meeting between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country in the National Championship game. The only time the top two teams in the country met in the National Championship game was in 1975 when Old Dominion defeated New Orleans.
Augustana enters the game averaging 90.3 points per game while allowing just 72.3 points per contest. The Vikings are shooting 50.7 percent from the field as a team, including 42.5 percent from behind the arc. Augustana shoots 73.4 percent from the free throw line and is averaging 38.2 rebounds, 19.1 assists, 10.1 turnovers, 6.0 steals and 2.4 blocks per game.
Lincoln Memorial averages 96.7 points per game and advanced to the title game with a 103-102 win over West Liberty on Thursday. The Hilltoppers have allowed 77.1 points per game and shoot 51.9 percent from the field, including 44.8 percent from 3-point range. LMU averages 42.3 rebounds per game to go along with 17.2 assists, 11.5 turnovers, 6.4 steals and 5.3 blocks per game.
After missing the quarterfinals of the Elite Eight,
Daniel Jansen returned on Thursday to score 13 points in the first half against Western Oregon to help his team to a big win and a shot at the national title. Jansen, the 2016 NABC National Player of the Year, is averaging 20.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for the Vikings on the year.
Senior forward
Casey Schilling enters Saturday's game averaging 19.5 points and a team-high 9.4 rebounds on the season. Schilling set a new single season record for rebounds grabbing nine against Western Oregon on Thursday. Schilling broke a 39-year old record and has 330 rebounds in 2015-16.
Sophomore guard
Jordan Spencer has dished out 237 assists in 2015-17, to go along with 6.8 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. Spencer enters Saturday's national title game just four assists shy of setting a new single season record at Augustana.
