SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 16 Augustana University football will hit the road for its final cross-divisional game of the 2016 on Saturday. The Vikings (3-0) will travel to Duluth, Minnesota to take on the Minnesota Duluth (2-1) at 6:05 p.m. at James S. Malosky Stadium.
Saturday's game will mark the first of a four-game stretch in which the Vikings will square-off against a nationally-ranked opponent. The Bulldogs entered the 2016 season ranked 21st in the AFCA Top 25 Poll but following a week one loss to SMSU, dropped out of the AFCA poll. Minnesota Duluth is currently ranked 21st in the D2football.com Top 25 poll.
Augustana enters Saturday's tilt ranked 16th in both national polls. The Vikings' last game against a ranked opponent was on Nov. 21 of last season, the playoff game against Humboldt State. Augustana's last win over a ranked opponent was on Oct. 24 of last season, a 35-28 win over No. 5 USF.
Saturday's game will be the 10th all-time meeting between Augustana and Minnesota Duluth. UMD holds a 7-2 lead in the all-time series, including a 3-1 record in Duluth. Augustana's last win over the Bulldogs was on Oct. 7, 2006 in Duluth. The Vikings and Bulldogs provided a thriller in the last meeting. UMD defeated Augustana 23-22 in overtime at Kirkeby-Over Stadium on Sept. 13, 2014.
A win on Saturday would give Augustana its first 4-0 start since winning nine straight games to start the 2010 season. The Vikings enter the game as the NSIC's leading scorer averaging 52 points per game, which also ranks third in the country. Augustana also ranks fourth in the NSIC and 18th in the nation averaging 497 yards of total offense per game.
Minnesota Duluth is coming off a 52-49 win at Concordia-St. Paul last week. The Bulldogs are averaging 536.3 yards of total offense, including 276 yards on the ground. UMD has allowed almost 450 yards of total offense per game, including 342 yards per game through the air.
