SIOUX FALLS – Ten days after capping a perfect 2-0 weekend at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic, the Augustana men's basketball team opened its home schedule with a hard fought 97-94 win over Peru State, thanks to double-doubles from both
Jordan Spencer and
Adam Dykman.
The Vikings improve to 3-0 with their 20th consecutive home-opening win, while the Bobcats end the day at 3-2.
Down one early, the Vikings used a 7-0 spurt early in the first half to turn a 10-9 deficit into a 16-10 lead, but every time it looked like Augustana would run away with the game, the Bobcats fired right back.
Augie led 26-16 midway though the first half, only to see Peru State cut that back to 29-25 less than three minutes later. The Vikings then got it up to 47-36 with less than two minutes left in the first half before taking a 49-40 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The lead got back to 11 at 51-40 to start the second half, but the Bobcats kept fighting, and cut that to 69-68 midway through the half, but this time they stayed close and hit a layup with 46 seconds left to tie the game at 85 and force the overtime.
The Bobcats took the early lead in the extra stanza, and led by as many as three points, but a
John Warren's second 3-pointer of the overtime put the Vikings up 94-93 with 36 seconds left, and they never trailed again.
Dykman led four Vikings in double figures with a game- and career-high 25 points, adding a game- and career-high 12 rebounds for his first-career double-double. Spencer notched his second double-double of the season, the seventh of his career, with 21 points and 10 assists, while Warren added 17 points and
Steven Schaefer 15 points. Freshman
