Soccer Gets Minnesota State in NSIC Championship Rematch

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The 2017 NSIC tournament championship will be a rematch of last season's NSIC tournament championship match as No. 3 seed Augustana (14-2-4) will take on No. 1 seed Minnesota State (16-2-2) in Mankato, Minn. at 2 p.m.

Road to the Finals
Augustana used a pair of one goal victories to reach the finals. The Vikings earned a 2-1 home win against No. 6 seed Concordia-St. Paul on Nov. 1 and upset No. 2 seed Bemidji State, 1-0, in the NSIC semifinals on Nov. 3.

Minnesota State got a test in its opening match against No. 8 seed Minnesota Duluth as the Mavericks and Bulldogs tied, 1-1 on Nov. 1. Minnesota State advanced after taking the shootout 8-7. The Mavericks breezed past No. 5 seed U-Mary in the NSIC semifinals 6-0 on Nov. 3.

Scouting Minnesota State
The Mavericks earned the No. 1 seed in the NSIC tournament after earning their fifth NSIC regular season title. Minnesota State had four first team All-NSIC selections and two second team honorees. The Mavericks are ranked No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll and rank second regionally.

Jenny Hoerter leads the Mavericks in points (23), goals (8) and assists (7). Taylor Livermore is 9-1-1 in 11 starts in the net for the Mavericks and is tied for second in the NSIC in shutouts (9). Ryann Rydeen is 7-0-1 in eight starts with six shutouts for Minnesota State.

Minnesota State owns a 22-2 series edge over the Vikings, including a 3-0 victory in Mankato, Minn. on Oct. 8. The Mavericks defeated the Vikings, 1-0, in last season's NSIC tournament title match.
