Vikings Men Host Rematch with Wayne State

12/17/2017 6:00:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS – The Augustana men bounced back from a Friday night loss to Minot State on Dec. 8, with a record-setting win over U-Mary on Dec. 9, in the first games at the Sioux Falls Arena, and the Vikings look to start a winning streak on Tuesday night, when they host the rematch with Wayne State, which downed the Vikings 80-75 in both teams' NSIC opener on Nov. 20.

The Vikings led for the majority of Friday's contest with Minot State, but the Beavers used a late surge to secure a 78-75 win. Four Vikings scored in double figures in the win, led by John Warren, who scored a game-high 21 points. Jordan Spencer added 15 points, with Matt Cartwright adding 14 and Adam Dykman 11 points in the loss.

Nine different Vikings hit at least one 3-pointer on Saturday vs. U-Mary, as Augustana hit 22 triples for the game, which sets a new single-game record. Couple that with a pair of double-digit first half runs and the Augustana men cruised to a comfortable 114-81 win over the Marauders.

Warren again led all players in the game, this time with 29 points, which includes six of the record-setting 22 3-pointers. The other 16 came from Steven Schaefer (5), Spencer (4), Cartwright (2), Dykman (1), Jameson Bryan (1), Alex Van Gerrevink (1), Braeden Myers (1) and Osaheni Amadasu (1)

The holiday break upcoming, the Vikings next play on Dec. 30, when they travel to Marshall, Minnesota to take on Southwest Minnesota State, then return to Sioux Falls to take on crosstown rival Sioux Falls on Dec. 31.
