Women’s Basketball Dominates in Mankato

MANKATO, Minn. -- An 11-0 run to start the contest guided the Augustana women's basketball team to an 80-55 victory over Minnesota State Saturday night at the Taylor Center. The win improves the Vikings record to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Mavericks fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC.

After an early Shelby Selland layup, the Vikings got rolling and never looked back. A Naomi Rust steal led to a three pointer by junior guard Lyndey Prosser to give Augustana a 5-0 lead. Layups by Rust and Selland and two free throws from Prosser capped off the 11-0 run to start the game.

The Vikings dominated from start to finish. In a game where they never trailed, a jumped from Selland and a steal and score from Logan O'Farrell gave Augustana a 35 point lead, which was their largest lead of the night.

Three players scored in double-figures for the Vikings, led by Selland with 17. Selland, a 6-2 center from Letcher, S.D., recorded a double-double as she added 10 rebounds Saturday night. Prosser, a junior guard from Sturgis, S.D., and Paige Peterson each poured in 12 points for Augustana. Peterson, a senior from Jamestown, N.D., added six rebounds on the night.
As a team, the Vikings shot 48 percent from the field and drilled seven three-pointers. They held Minnesota State to just 28 percent shooting and forced 16 turnovers. Logan O'Farrell,
Rust, Peterson and Hana Metoxen each had two steals on the night.

The Vikings return to action Friday, Dec. 8 when they take on Minot State at 6 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena.
