FAYETTE, Iowa - The Augustana soccer team (4-1-2, 3-0-1 NSIC) went on the road on Friday afternoon and defeated Upper Iowa (1-4-1, 1-2-1 NSIC), 3-0. The Vikings upped their winning streak to four consecutive matches.
Augustana posted its fifth consecutive shutout tying the school record set in 2014 and 2008. The Vikings three goals were also the most goals scored this season by Augustana and the most goals scored since Oct. 28, 2016 against SMSU (5-1).
Augustana was dialed in from the get-go in Fayette. Senior
Samantha Tymkowicz put the Vikings on the board in the 23rd with her second goal of the season. She took a shot from 20-yards out which was blocked, but took the rebound and fired a second shot into the back of the net.
Grace Behm got in on the action in the 37th minute with her first goal of the season. Behm took her shot from the left corner of the 18-yard box and fired it into the upper right corner of the goal to give Augustana a 2-0 lead at half.
In the second half,
Ellie Knowles scored the final goal of the match in 64th minute. Knowles scored on a header on a free kick by
Rebekah Thoresen to give the Vikings the 3-0 advantage.
Augustana outshot Upper Iowa 27-5 and had 12 shots on goal compared to two by the Peacocks.
Taylor Machacek posted her fifth shutout on the season and her 22nd career shutout. Macahcek recorded two saves on the afternoon.
Tymkowicz led the Vikings with four shots and two on goal, followed by three shots by
Kelly Partington.
Augustana returns home for a matchup against Winona State on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at Morstad Field.
