Vikings Look to Rebound at Minot State

9/7/2017 2:29:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The 2017 season didn't exactly start how Augustana wanted it to start, but the Vikings try to put the season-opening defeat at the hands of MSU Moorhead behind them this week, when they travel to Minot, North Dakota to take on the Minot State Beavers on Saturday at Herb Parker Stadium. The Vikings and Beavers kickoff at 1 p.m.

Both teams enter the second week of the season in search of their first win; the Beavers opened on Thursday, Aug. 31, with a 24-0 loss at Concordia-St. Paul, while the Vikings suffered a 38-7 loss against the Dragons at home, as the only Saturday game on the NSIC slate.

The Beavers loss spoiled the debut of head coach Mike Aldrich. The former Augustana head coach took over a Minot State program that posted a combined record of 10-45 over the last five seasons, which includes back-to-back 1-10 seasons in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

The Vikings, on the other hand, graduated a load of offensive talent, but entered the season with high hopes because of the culture of winning head coach Jerry Olszewski built in his first four years at Augustana, where he posted a 27-18 record, which includes winning records in each of the last three seasons and a playoff appearance in 2015, when his squad posted a 9-3 record.
