Vikings Men Wrap Up Homestand This Weekend

1/24/2018 1:00:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The longest homestand of the season for the Augustana men wraps up this weekend when the Vikings host Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. The action starts on Friday at the Elmen Center, when the Vikings and Bulldogs tip at 8 p.m., and then concludes on Saturday at the Sioux Falls Arena, with a 6 p.m. tip with the Huskies.

The hopes of their first weekend sweep of the season almost came true last weekend, when the Vikings opened with an 86-69 win over Upper Iowa, but fell short on Saturday in a n 84-80 loss to Winona State.

Jordan Spencer led a balanced Vikings attack with 16 points in Friday's win, adding eight assists and six rebounds. Marcus Asmus pitched in with 14 points and eight rebounds, while both John Warren and Adam Dykman finished with 12 points, with Warren also notching career-highs with four blocks and 10 rebounds to complete the game's only double-double. Jameson Bryan rounded out the Vikings double figure scorers with 10 points.

Three Vikings recorded double-doubles and four scored in double figures on Saturday, but Winona State hit a dozen 3-pointers in the second half to secure the win and spoil Augustana's hopes of a weekend sweep.

Spencer led four Vikings in double figures with a game-high 25 points, adding 10 assists for his double-double. A night after notching his first-career double-double, Warren picked up his second with 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Marcus Asmus added 12 each in points and rebounds for his third double-double of the season, while Steven Schaefer rounded out Augie's double figure scorers with 16 points, all of which came in the second half.
