SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Following a successful homestand last weekend, the Augustana volleyball team will continue their three-game road trip this weekend when they travel north to take on MSU Moorhead and No. 2 Northern State. Friday's game vs. the Dragons is set for 6 p.m., and Saturday's showdown with the Wolves is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Although the Vikings (7-13, 2-10 NSIC) fell to Wayne State in straight sets on Tuesday, this past weekend Augustana swept Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State, beating both the Golden Eagles and Beavers in straight sets to get their first two conference wins of the season.
Senior
Courtney Place put together double-doubles both Friday and Saturday. Place had 13 kills and 11 digs Friday and 21 kills and 11 digs Saturday. Overall, the Vikings hit .261 on Friday, and .223 Saturday.
Defensively, Augustana ranks eighth in the NSIC in digs with 6.51 per set. Offensively, the Vikings are tenth in the NSIC in both kills per set (12.20), and assists per set (11.40). Freshman
Avery Thorson has racked up 696 assists and sits 11th in the NSIC at 9.67 per set.
Scouting the Opponent - MSU Moorhead
The Dragons come into this match 10th in the NSIC at 9-10 (5-7 NSIC). Tuesday, MSU Moorhead fell to No. 2 Northern State (3-0) in their fifth straight loss. This past weekend, they dropped two conference matchups against Winona State (1-3), and Upper Iowa in straight sets.
The Dragons rank third in the NSIC for blocks with 2.17 per set and sixth in the NSIC in digs with 16.65 per set.
The Dragons offense is led by Amanda Carlson with 190 kills (2.92/set), Monica Vega leads the defense with 354 digs (4.93/set), and Lauren Kiewiet leads in assists with 385 on the season (5.58/set).
Augustana leads the all-time series 22-7 and has won the last four matchups.
Scouting the Opponent - Northern State
The Wolves come into the weekend ranked No. 2 in the AVCA polls and first in the NSIC with a 19-1 (11-1 NSIC) record. Most recently, they defeated MSU Moorhead (3-0) on the road after two weekend wins against Upper Iowa (3-1) Friday and Winona State (3-2) Saturday.
The Wolves rank first in the NSIC in hitting percentage (.319) as well as aces.
The Wolves are led by Hailey Busch with 280 kills (4.00/set), Jaiden Langlie with 318 digs (4.54/set), and Ashley Rozell who has 876 assists (12.51/set).
Augustana leads the all-time series 23-10-2.
