Volleyball Hosts Two Home Contests For Homecoming Weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --  Following a split on the road this past weekend, the Augustana volleyball team will begin a four-game homestand this weekend when Minot State and U-Mary come to town. As part of homecoming weekend and Vikings Days, Friday's game vs. the Beavers is set for 6 p.m., and Saturday's matchup with the Marauders is scheduled for 5 p.m. For Saturday's game fans who bring their Oct. 20 football ticket will receive $5 admission.

The Vikings (8-14, 3-12 NSIC) defeated MSU Moorhead in four sets on Friday night to get their third NSIC win.Saturday, the Vikings traveled to Aberdeen to face No. 2 Northern State. Augustana put up a fight but lost, 3-1.

Senior Courtney Place put together another pair of double-doubles this past weekend. Place had 20 kills and 23 digs Friday, and 15 kills and 19 digs Saturday. Over the weekend, Place recorded her 1,195th career kill, moving into 9th all-time in school history.

Overall this season, Augustana ranks sixth in the NSIC with 17.06 digs per set. Offensively, the Vikings are tenth in the NSIC in both kills per set (12.30), and assists per set (11.50). Freshman Avery Thorson has racked up 785 assists and sits 11th in the NSIC at 9.81 per set.  Abby Benson leads the team with 58 blocks on the season.

Scouting the Opponent - Minot State
The Beavers come into this match 12th in the NSIC at 10-13 (4-10 NSIC). This past weekend, they dropped two conference matchups against No. 16 Southwest Minnesota State and the University of Sioux Falls in straight sets. The Beavers did pick up a 3-0 win in a midweek matchup against NAIA foe Dickinson State University (N.D.).

The Beavers rank sixth in the NSIC in digs at 16.65/set

Minot is led by Shelby Spuller with 323 kills (3.80/set), Karli Koza leads the defense with 417 digs (4.91/set), and Kelsey Dewulf leads in assists with 846 on the season (9.95/set).

Augustana leads the all-time series 10-0 and swept their the last matchup.

Scouting the Opponent - U-Mary
The Marauders come into this match with a 3-19 (0-14 NSIC) record. Most recently, they dropped two conference matchups against the University of Sioux Falls on Friday, and No. 16 Southwest Minnesota State Saturday, both in straight sets.

The Marauders rank fourth in the NSIC in digs and ninth in aces.

Natalia Cruz leads the Marauders in both kills (1.77/set) and digs (2.99/set). Sydney Murphy has 480 assists (6.86/set).

Augustana leads the all-time series 16-0 and swept their last matchup.
