Soccer Looks To Close Regular Season Strong

Friday's game is at Home, Sunday they visit St. Paul

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --  Coming off an outstanding weekend at Morstad Field, the Augustana women's soccer (10-3-3, 9-2-2 NSIC) team is set to finish the regular season strong with a pair of NSIC games this weekend. The Vikings will close out the home portion of their regular season with a matchup vs. No. 21 Minnesota State at 3 p.m., and then hit the road for a Sunday matchup in the Twin Cities vs. Concordia St.-Paul at 1 p.m. Although the Vikings don't know their exact seed yet, the Vikings do know they'll host the first round of the NSIC playoffs next Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Scouting Augustana:
The Augustana women's soccer team opened up homecoming weekend with a dominant performance at Morstad Field last Friday, rolling past Minnesota Crookston with a 7-0 win. The seven goals are not only a season-high for the Vikings, but it also ties the all-time program record set back in Sept. 2003 (vs. Jamestown, N.D.).

On Sunday, the Vikings returned to action vs No. 3 Bemidji State and battled to a double-overtime 0-0 tie at Morstad Field. Playing on the Vikings senior day, Augustana shutout Bemidji State for the first time all year and snapped their 15 game winning streak.  

For her efforts over the weekend, Claudia Pueschner was named NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week. It's the third time Pueschner has governed award. She has a .922 save percentage in the posts this season for the Vikings.

Offensively, The Vikings are still led by Alexis Legg with eight goals. Next in line in the scoring column is Julie Plonsky, Rebekah Thoresen and Grace Behm who each have three.

Scouting No. 21 Minnesota State:
No. 21 Minnesota State is coming off a 3-0 win against MSU Moorhead. The Mavericks (13-2-1, 11-1-1 NSIC) are on a two game win streak, but come into Morstad Field where the Vikings are 5-1-1 this season. Dakota Wendell leads the Mavericks with 11 goals scored this season and has tallied six assists.Trailing Wendell is Morgan Cottew as she has buried the ball seven times and has tabbed eight assists.

Scouting Concordia-St. Paul:
Concordia-St. Paul (9-4-3, 6-4-3 NSIC)  is coming off a 1-0 loss against Northern State at home on Sunday afternoon. The loss is only the fourth for the Golden Bears so far this season, with two of those losses coming against ranked opponents. The leader for the Golden Bears is Jordan Rowan-Stafford. The senior has six goals this season, three of which have been game winning goals for the Golden Bears. Along with the six goals, Rowan-Stafford has a single assist, giving her 13 points this season. Jena Berkland and Brooke Salo also have four goals each for CSP this season.

> Pueschner, a redshirt freshman goalie, is 1st in the NSIC in saves (94)
with a save percentage of .922. She also finds herself in the top ten with
saves per game (6.27).
>Pueschner is the current NSIC Goalkeeper of the week, this is her third
honor of the season.
> Morgan Moe, Pueschner (x3) and Thoresen have all governed NSIC
Player of the Week honors this season.
> Six different Viking players have scored one goal this season.
> With eight (8) goals on the season, freshman Alexis Legg sits in 5th in
the NSIC in goals scored.
>Peyton Stenzel leads the team in assists with four.
