Volleyball Travels to Wayne State Tuesday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Following a successful homestand, the Augustana volleyball team will head back on the road this week, traveling to Nebraska to take on Wayne State Tuesday at 6 p.m. The midweek NSIC matchup starts a three-game road trip for Augustana.

The Vikings (7-12, 2-9 NSIC) are coming off a weekend sweep of Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State, beating both the Golden Eagles and Beavers in straight sets to get their first two conference wins of the season.

Senior Courtney Place put together double-doubles both Friday and Saturday. Place had 13 kills and 11 digs Friday and 21 kills and 11 digs Saturday. Overall, the Vikings hit .261 on Friday, and .223 Saturday.

Defensively, Augustana ranks ninth in the NSIC in digs with 1116 (16.17/set). Offensively, the Vikings are tenth in the NSIC in both kills and assists with 835 (12.10/set) and 778 (11.28/set) respectively. Freshman Avery Thorson has racked up 657 assists, and sits 11th in the NSIC at 9.52 per set.  

Scouting the Opponent - Wayne State
Wayne State, who is receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, comes into this match at 15-5 (7-4 NSIC). This past weekend, the Wildcats picked up wins in straight sets against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.

The Wildcats lead the NSIC in blocks totaling 174 on the season (2.64/set). Wayne State sits at seventh in the NSIC for both digs 1091 (16.53/set) and hitting percentage .225.

Leaders on the season for the Wildcats are Katie Stephens with 184 kills (2.67/set), and Megan Gebhardt with  671 assists (9.72/set). Defensively, Haley Kauth leads Wayne State with 303 digs (4.39/set).

Augustana leads the all-time series 24-22-1. The Vikings lost to the Wildcats earlier this season at the Elmen Center, 3-0. Fans can follow Tuesday's match at GoAugie.com/live.
