SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Playing for the final time before they head to Puerto Rico, the Augustana women's basketball team used a historic performance to roll to a 87-41 win over Dakota State over Thursday night at the Elmen Center. The Vikings set single-game records for forced turnovers (34), points allowed (41), and steals (23) while improving to 4-0 (0-0 NSIC).
The Vikings got four players in double-figures, and were led by
Abby Hora with 17 points. Dakota State drops to 1-6 on the season.
The story of the game was Augustana's tenacious defense, and the Vikings 3rd quarter alone was arguably their best in program history. Augustana outscored Dakota State 27-0, knocking down 12-of-25 attempts, and shutting down the trojans with a 0-for-8 quarter.
Augustana redshirt freshman
Camryn Hay helped lead a tenacious defensive effort against the Lady T's. "Our fast break worked really well and we forced a lot of turnovers which led to transition points," Hay said. The Vikings finished the game allowing the Lady T's to shoot just 26% from the field.
During the first quarter Augustana scored a quick 28 points while holding the Lady T's to four. The 61.9% the Vikings shot in 1st half is their best half in four seasons since they knocked down 63.3% of their shots in the 1st half vs. Upper Iowa (Feb. 21st, 2014)
The Vikings kept their foot on the gas to begin the second half, starting and finishing the second half with 38 points. Augustana picked up back-to-back turnovers, including a steal from
Lynsey Prosser and a layup from
Abby Hora.
The Vikings 87 points is a season high and the first time this season to have four student-athletes in double digit scoring.
Hora, Prosser (12 pts),
Shelby Selland (10 pts), and career-high 14 points from
Vishe' Rabb  marked the four Vikings to tally double digits scoring.
The Vikings have a bit of a break before heading to Puerto Rico on Nov. 21 for three games.
