SAN JUAN, P.R. — Behind a great overall game for the Augustana women's basketball team, the Vikings moved to 6-1 after defeating UPR Bayamon Friday, 81-61. The story of the Vikings season is their ability to take a large lead early on, and, today was no different. The Vikings jumped ahead by the half they never let UPR Bayamon get close enough, winning by 20.
The Vikings went into half with a large lead, 46-23, and kept rolling in the second half and put up 35 more points. The Vikings were led by three student-athletes who scored double digits.
Lynsey Prosser led all columns with a double-double performance. The senior guard grabbed 13 rebounds and tallied 19 points, going 8 of 17 from the field. The Sturgis, S.D. native also dishes out six assists in 33 minutes of action in the Puerto Rico Classic.
Abby Hora also found herself in the scoring column with 16 points. Hora went 6 of 11 from the field, but more impressive, she went 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. In her 29 minutes of action she also dished out four assists and grabbed four rebounds.
The final double digit scorer for the Vikings is
Hana Metoxen, she dropped 14 points in the win. Metoxen, an Apple Valley, Minn. native, had a great performance in San Juan with a career-high with 14 points. Her previous highest was 11 vs Minnesota State on Jan. 5, 2018.
Shelby Selland also contributed 9 points and 13 rebounds in the win. The Vikings finished the game with 54 rebounds and 12 steals collectively.
The Vikings now head back to Sioux Falls to take on Waldorf (IA) on Tuesday. The tip is set for 7 p.m. in the Elmen Center.
