Krauth Gets Win No. 600, Share of NSIC Regular Season Title

FAYETTE, IOWA -- Dave Krauth, who's been the head coach for the Augustana women's basketball team for 29 seasons, earned his 600th victory when his Vikings defeated Upper Iowa 71-45 Saturday night from Dorman Gymnasium.

Krauth is the sixth active head coach with 600 or more wins and the 15th coach of all-time to do so in Division II.

The win secured the Vikings a three-way tie for the NSIC regular season crown. Augustana finished the regular season with a 23-3 record and a 19-3 mark in the NSIC. It's the first NSIC regular season crown in program history, which makes back-to-back seasons the Vikings have won the South Division.

Upper Iowa concludes their regular season with a 2-26 overall mark and an 0-22 record in league play.

Augustana trailed 17-13 at the end of the first quarter, but a 15-0 run to start the second energized Augustana, and the Vikings outscored the Peacocks 22-6 in the second frame.

A Paige Peterson jumper tied the game at 17 and a Presley O'Farrell jumper extended the run to 10-0 and gave the Vikings a 23-17 lead. Presley O'Farrell found a cutting Shelby Selland, who connected on a layup and then hit a jumper to cap off the 15-0 run to give Augie a 28-17 lead.

Logan O'Farrell, a senior from Summit, S.D., hit a mid-range jumper to give Augustana a 12-point advantage, which was their largest lead of the first half. Senior Allie Koehn spotted up in the corner, called for the pass from senior Paige Peterson and drilled a 3-pointer from the corner as time expired in the first half, giving Augie a 35-23 lead at the break.

Using the momentum from the end of the first half, the Vikings scored the first seven points of the third quarter. Lynsey Prosser hit a jumper, Selland drained a triple from straight-away center and Logan O'Farrell bounced a layup off glass to give Augie a 19-point lead.

Selland, who finished the contest with 13 points, capped a 10-0 run by draining a 3-pointer from the wing to give the Vikings a 52-28 lead. With 7:58 to play in the fourth, Prosser snagged a long rebound, sprinted to the free-throw line and stopped, popped and cashed in her 10th point of the game and gave Augie a 67-40 lead.

Prosser, Peterson (10), Logan O'Farrell, Presley O'Farrell, and Selland each scored in double-figures for the contest.

Augustana shot just 28 percent in the first quarter, but shot 71.4 percent in the second quarter, 56.3 percent in the third and shot 45 percent for the game. Upper Iowa cashed in on just 24 percent of their shots in the contest. Both teams drilled eight baskets from long range.

The Vikings will host the first round of the NSIC tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 21 inside the Elmen Center. Their opponent and tip-off time has yet to be announced.
