Ashley Mickschl and sophomore
Olivia Wolters combined for a five inning, no-hit shutout of Missouri Western State on Friday in the Vikings first game of the Kelly Laas Memorial Invite, as Augie rolled to a 9-0, in the Husky Dome.
Mickschl tossed the first four innings, striking out one and walking two, before giving way to Wolters, who walked one and struck out one in her lone inning of work.
The win boosts the Augustana record to 3-4 on the season, while the Griffons fall to 3-11.
A strong second inning set the offensive tone for the game, as the Vikings plated five runs on five hits, with the benefit of one error, to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
Christina Pickett got the scoring started with a two-RBI, bases loaded single to make it 2-0 Augie. Two batters later,
Kendall Cornick tripled to score
Kara McDougall for a 3-0 lead, with RBI singles from
Abbie Lund and
Kylie Rome to follow before the inning ended with the Vikings up 5-0.
Augustana scored an unearned run in the third to make it 6-0, and then got a two-RBI double from
Maggie Kadrlik in the fourth for an 8-0 lead, before Lund knocked home an insurance run in the fifth to secure the win.
The Vikings look to keep it rolling with two more games on Friday, starting with Southwest Baptist at 5:30 p.m., followed by a game against Fort Hays State at 8 p.m. Stats for both games may not be immediately available, but the final scores can be found on softball schedule page on GoAugie.com.
