Warren’s Career Night Lifts Men’s Basketball to a Victory over Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, MINN. -- A career night from John Warren helped lift the Augustana men's basketball team to a 92-66 victory over Bemidji State Saturday night inside the BSU Gymnasium.

With the win, the Vikings improve to 14-10 overall and 9-9 in the NSIC.

Warren, a junior from Hopkins, Minn., poured in a career-high 32 points, connected on a career-high eight 3-pointers and corralled a career-high 14 rebounds.

Trailing 16-8 with 17:06 to play in the first half, the Vikings ripped off a 9-1 run to tie the game at 17. During the run, Warren hit back-to-back three-pointers to pull Augustana within 16-14 and a Jordan Spencer shot from long range tied the contest up at 17-all.

With Bemidji State holding a 30-27 advantage over Augustana, Warren hit another three to tie the game at 30 and sparked a 10-2 Vikings run. A Marcus Asmus layup with 6:14 to play in the first half gave Augie a 37-30 lead.

The Vikings led by as many as 12 in the first half. Warren hit one of his five first-half three-pointers to put Augustana up 48-36 and Augie compiled a 48-38 lead at the break.

In the second half, Bemidji State cut their deficit to 55-48, but that was the closest the Beavers got the rest of the night. Bodey Behrends, a redshirt freshman from Lakefield, Minn., hit one of his two 3-pointers to give the Vikings a 70-57 lead with 9:51 to play in the second half.

The 13 point lead quickly extended to a 25 point lead when the Vikings hit five 3-pointers in a row. Jameson Bryan, a freshman guard from Apple Valley, Minn. hit one, followed by three consecutive makes from long range by Warren. A Spencer three-pointer with 3:18 to play gave Augustana an 89-59 lead. The 30 point advantage was the largest of the night.

Adam Dykman finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Behrends ended his night with a career-high 12 points to go along with five rebounds. Marcus Asmus had 12 points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

As a team, Augustana shot 47 percent from the field and 42 percent from long range. They connected on 15 three-pointers, the most since they hit 10 earlier this season vs. Winona State.

Bemidji State's Sharif Black had 22 points to lead the way for the Beavers.

With the loss, Bemidji State drops to 10-13 overall and 7-11 in league play.

The Vikings return to action on Friday, Feb. 9 when they host Sioux Falls inside the Sioux Falls Arena at 8 p.m.
