ABERDEEN, S.D. – Senior
Lexy Pederson twirled a two-hit gem in the nightcap on Monday in the Presentation College Dome in Aberdeen, S.D., against Northern State to secure a 1-0 win and salvage a doubleheader split, as the No. 21 ranked Vikings dropped the opener 3-2.
The split gives Augustana a 29-9 overall record and an 11-3 mark in the NSIC, while the Wolves end the day with a 20-14 overall record and a 10-4 mark in the conference.
The Vikings struck first in the opener in the bottom of the first, getting a
Kylie Rome RBI single that scored
Abbie Lund for a 1-0 lead.
Northern State plated the equalizer in the third, and then added single runs in the fourth and the sixth innings for a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth, and while Augustana got one back on an
Ashley Mickschl RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2, the Vikings would get no closer.
Pitching dominated the second game of the day, as Pederson and two Wolves pitchers combined for just five hits in the game. Northern State got its first of two hits in the second, but could not capitalize, while the Vikings went hitless into the fourth inning, when
Maggie Kadrlik broke through for a single, but also did not score.
The Vikings finally broke through in the sixth, when
Shannon Petersen doubled home
Kara McDougall from first base for the game's only run. McDougall pinch ran for Rome, who opened the inning with a walk, which drew a pitching change from the Wolves.
Pederson walked one and struck out seven in the complete game win, which boosts her record to 10-2 on the season.
Scheduled to play at No. 10 Winona State on Tuesday, field conditions in Winona, Minn., forced the teams to move those games back to either Wednesday or Thursday. Stay with GoAugie.com for further schedule updates.
