Volleyball Hits the Road for Two NSIC Matches

SIOUX FALLS, SD. -- Augustana Volleyball hits the road this weekend for two NSIC matchups. The Vikings will take on the Warriors of Winona State as well as the Peacocks from Upper Iowa.

The Vikings have yet to win a conference game this season, but head coach Jen Jacobs is excited about the opportunity to be playing these teams this weekend. "We are excited to continue NSIC play this weekend," Jacobs said "Winona and Upper Iowa are two solid teams with experienced players and they will both be good matchups for us."

The Warriors are 4-9 on the season and just 1-4 in the NSIC, while the Peacocks are 8-5 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC, as well.
Augustana comes into this weekend after falling in five sets to No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul. In the five set thriller the Vikings won the first set which was the Golden Bears first set loss in seven matches.

Senior Hanna Justesen set a career high with 22 digs, her previous career high was 21 vs Upper Iowa on Oct. 28, 2017 and senior Courtney Place was one kill away from tying her career high of 26 kills in a match, she finished with 25.

Scouting the Opponent - Winona State Warriors

As stated previously, the Warriors come into this match at 4-9 (1-4 NSIC). Winona States most recent loss is to the University of Sioux Falls in three sets.
The Warriors are led offensively by Megan Flom with 152 kills (3.30/set). The sophomore from Kenyon, Minn. has a hitting percentage of .258 on the season and has tallied 175 points.

Defensively the Warriors are led by Becca Pagel. Pagel has 177 digs this season (3.77/set) in the 47 sets she has played. The sophomore from Sumner, Iowa has accumulated 528 digs thus far in her two years as a Warrior.

Winona State has lost three of their last four matches. The losses come from the Cougars of Sioux Falls, the Upper Iowa Peacocks, Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears, and the Mavericks from Minnesota State.

Augustana leads the series history 21-10 vs the Warriors of Winona State.

Scouting the Opponent - Upper Iowa Peacocks

The 8-5 Peacocks (1-4 NSIC) are on a two game losing streak. The losses come from No. 10 Southwest Minnesota State and the University of Sioux Falls. Of the last five games the Peacocks last five games they have dropped four of the five.

The Peacocks have outscored their opponents 601 to 593 and are led offensively by Anna Winter. Winter has 162 kills on the season (3.52/set). WInter has played in all 46 sets for the Peacocks and has a hitting percentage of .236 on the season.

On the defensive side of the ball the Peacocks are led by Haley Weepie. Weepie has played in all 46 sets for the Peacocks as well and has 192 digs on the season. Giving her 4.17 digs per set. Just behind Weepie is Gabby Holmes with 182 (3.96/set) and Malissa LeClaire with 152 (3.30/set).

LeClaire also leads with 476 assists for the Warriors.

Augustana leads the series 12-2 in all time history. The last six times these teams met the Vikings have taken all six match victories.

The Vikings take on the Warriors at 6 p.m. Friday Sept. 21 and face the Peacocks at 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 22. Keep up with the action at Goaugie.com/live.
