WARRENSBURG, MO. -- The Vikings faced the Central Missouri Jennies in Warrensburg, MO and came out just short of a victory. Last season Central Missouri was the 2017 DII National Champions. Their record was a perfect 26-0. The Jennies have not lost a game since the 2016 semifinals of the National Tournament.
Central Missouri is 1-0 on the season thus far, the Jennies won 3-2 against #17 Southwest Oklahoma State. The Jennies were ranked #1 in the preseason coaches poll.
During the first half the Jennies scored a goal in the twenty ninth minute. The goal was scored by Makayla Toth for the Jennies.
Going into halftime the Vikings trailed 1-0.
A few minutes into the second half the Jennies scored their second goal of the game. They now lead 2-0.
Then during the fifty seventh minute of the game Senior
Julie Plonsky scored her first goal of the season for the Vikings. Plonsky is from Castle Rock, Colorado. The Vikings trail 2-1.
Just four minutes after the Vikings first goal, another goal is scored by freshman
Alexis Legg. Her second for the season.
At the end of regulation the score was tied 2-2 which sent us to overtime.
During the overtime neither the Vikings nor Jennies scored, causing a second overtime.
The second overtime the Jennies scored the third goal of the game. Causing the Vikings to lose.
The Vikings fell just short of an upset to the 2017 National Champions.
Augustana is now 0-1-1 on the season and return to action on Friday Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. vs Missouri Western.
