Vikings Split Weekend Pair

Hana Metoxen records career high 16 points

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Coming off a tough loss to Concordia St. Paul on Friday night, the Augustana women's basketball team split the weekend's game with a come-from-behind 68-66 win against Minnesota State at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Vikings move to 18-5 (10-4 NSIC) and the Mavericks go to 7-11 (4-10 NSIC)

Junior Hana Metoxen had a career day from the field scoring a career-high 16 points and grabbing six boards as well in the win. Rabb also had 16 points to go along with her six steals. Hora finished with 11 points, 5 boards and 5 assists to round out the double-digit scoring for the Vikings.

After trailing 10-2 in the opening minutes of the game, the Vikings got things rolling and only trailed 21-15 after one-quarter of play. In the second quarter, Augustana went on an 8-0 run, holding the Mavericks scoreless for nearly three minutes, to secure their first lead at 33-32.

Both teams would trade baskets until the halftime break and Minnesota State took  38-35 lead at intermission.

Starting the second half, redshirt-freshman Vishe' Rabb hit a three-pointer out of the halftime break to tie the game up at 38 a-piece. That was the start of an 11-7 run the Vikings had before the Mavericks answered back with a 6-2 run to end the quarter to give them a 56-52 lead going into the final quarter.

Augustana went 1-of-5 to start the quarter and trailed 62-55 with just under six minutes to play. Junior Abby Hora made sure the Vikings didn't go winless on the weekend as she capped off a 13-5 run to end the game with a clutch layup followed by a pair of free throws to give Augustana the 68-66 win over the Mavericks.

Overall, Augustana shot 41.9 percent from the field and 40 percent from deep. They went 8-of-12 from the charity stripe for 66.7 percent. They outrebounded the Mavericks 39-35, including 14 offensive rebounds. The Viking defense was a huge part of them getting back into the game as they had 15 steals and forced 23 Maverick turnovers.

For Minnesota State, they were 41.8 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from deep. They were led by Kirstin Klitzke who had a team-high 15 points.

Augustana heads back on the road to take on Minot State Friday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m. and U-Mary at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2.
