Viking Volleyball Faces Off Against Cross-Town Foe Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana volleyball team hits the road to face another tough NSIC opponent in Sioux Falls who was ranked No. 24 this past weekend. 
First serve is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Match
The Vikings travel to take on their cross-town rival Sioux Falls. Augustana holds a 23-15 all-time record against the Cougars. 

The Cougars (11-5, 3-5 NSIC) 
Sioux Falls started out the season 11-0 which earned the Cougars their first-ever AVCA ranking at No. 20. Since then, the Cougars have had a tough start to conference play losing their last five contests. Sioux Falls is coming off tough road battles against Minnesota State and No. 7 Concordia St. Paul.

The Cougars are led by Kasandra Springer with 3.77 kills per set and Abby Feyereisen has averaged 2.94 kills per set. Krista Goerger leads the team with 10.45 assists per set while Allie Maloney has averaged 4.21 digs per set. Feyereisen leads the team with 0.76 blocks per set. 

As a team, Sioux Falls has averaged 13.4 kills per set, 11.6 assists per set and 1.9 aces per set. Defensively, the Cougars average 15 digs per set and 1.7 blocks per set. 

The Vikings (11-6, 4-4 NSIC)
Augustana is coming off a tough weekend against No. 18 Upper Iowa and No. 19 Winona State. 

Sophomore Izzy Sommers leads the team in attacking percentage after hitting at a .290 clip this season. Sommers has also averaged 2.20 kills per set and totaled 36 blocks on the season. Avery Thorson leads the team with 9.98 assists per set which ranks eighth in the NSIC. 

Freshman Maddy Guetter leads the team with 3.02 kills per set while Grace Haberland averages 2.32 kills per set and 2.68 digs per set. Defensively, Erika Bute ranks second in the NSIC with 5.66 digs per set and Abby Benson ranks fifth in the NSIC with 1.02 blocks per set. 

As a team, the Vikings average 12.95 kills per set, 11.92 assists per set and 1.81 aces per set. While on defense, Augustana averages 17.65 digs and 1.65 blocks per set. 

One Last Thing
Augustana's 13 aces against Winona State were the most aces recorded in an NSIC match this season. Lexie Langley had a team-high four aces while Haberland and Bute chipped in with three a-piece. Sophia Terwilleger recorded two aces while Thorson picked up one in the match.
