Augustana Volleyball Takes Down Minnesota Crookston

CROOKSTON, Minn. -- The Augustana volleyball team earned its second sweep of the weekend with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 victory over Minnesota Crookston Saturday in Crookston, Minnesota.

Coming off a dominant win over the Beavers of Bemidji State on Friday, the Vikings didn't skip a beat on Saturday. Augustana jumped out to an early 7-3 lead only to have the Golden Eagles claw back to make it 14-13. With the score 16-14, the Vikings would use a 9-4 run to take the first set 25-18.

In the second frame, Augustana used another hot start to build a 9-5 lead. This time the Vikings made sure UMC didn't get any momentum going using a 7-1 run to extend the lead to 17-7. Back-to-back aces from Grace Haberland made the score 19-7, but the Golden Eagles didn't go quietly as they had a 5-0 run before a service error from Sydney Kruisselbrink gave Augustana the 25-16 second set win.

For the third set, the Vikings utilized a hot start to build a 7-3 lead. After runs by both teams made the score 19-16 Vikings, Payton Rosendahl hammered home back-to-back kills as well as an attacking error by UMC gave Augustana a 22-16 lead. Haberland captured the match-clinching kill to give the Vikings the 25-18 set and match point.

Haberland finished with a team-high 13 kills, 14 digs and three aces for her fifth double-double of the season. Izzy Sommers chipped in with 12 kills hitting on .400 clip.
