Augustana Soccer Falls in Overtime at Bemidji

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Augustana soccer team suffered its first loss of the NSIC season Sunday, falling 2-1 in overtime at Bemidji State. The setback is just the second of the year for the Vikings as they fall to 12-2-1 overall and 10-1-1 in league play. Bemidji State, the defending NSIC Champions, improves to 10-4-1, 9-2-1.

It took 64 minutes, but the Vikings struck first as Alexis Legg found the back of the net thanks to a pass from Kenzie Geiger. Legg accepted Geiger's pass with her head and pushed the ball past the BSU goalkeeper. The goal marked Legg's fourth of the season while Geiger picked up her second assist on the year.

With time working against BSU, Sara Wendt headed a corner kick in the 82nd minute that found the back of the net, knotting the game with just eight minutes to play. Neither team was able to gain traction by the end of regulation, forcing the third overtime game of the year for Augustana.

In the extra period, Bemidji State used a forward push to sneak the ball into the net and capture the victory.

Grace Behm led Augustana with three shots, placing two on frame while Legg also had three shots with her goal being her shot on goal. Goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner totaled five saves on the day while her counterpart, Emma Riedi, had six saves.

After the conclusion of Sunday's games, the Vikings are in second place of the NSIC, trailing Concordia-St. Paul by one point (32-31) with three games to play. Augustana plays at No. 21 Minnesota State on Friday before coming home to host No. 16 Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday.
