SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- After a convincing 3-1 homestand the past two weekends, the Augustana volleyball team will hit the road to face off against No. 18 Upper Iowa on Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 19 Winona State on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Matches
Augustana has a record of 5-2 on Fridays and a 6-1 record on Saturdays coming into this weekend's contests.
The Peacocks (11-3, 3-3 NSIC)
Upper Iowa enters Friday's contest as the No.18 team in the nation and are coming off a big road win against No. 24 Sioux Falls last weekend. The Peacocks host the Vikings and No. 15 Wayne State on Friday and Saturday.
Upper Iowa is led by Anna Winter with 4.45 kills per set and Kaitlin Niedert with 2.72 kills per set. Carlee Ketchum leads the way with 10.39 assists per set and has recorded a team-high 16 aces. Defensively, Haley Weepie averages 4.61 digs per set while Sarah Johnson has recorded 1.12 blocks per set.
As a team, the Peacocks average 13.3 kills per set, 12.2 assists per set and 1.5 aces per set. On defense, they average 17.4 digs per set and 2.1 blocks per set. Augustana holds a 12-4 all-time record against Upper Iowa including a 5-3 record playing in Fayette.
The Warriors (12-2, 4-2 NSIC)
No. 19 Winona State is coming off a big weekend sweeping No. 24 Sioux Falls and No. 9 SMSU on the road. The Warriors host Augustana on Friday and No. 7 Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday.
The Warriors are led by Megan Flom with 3.45 kills per set on a .344 attacking percentage and Madison Larson with 3.02 kills per set. Bre Maloney has a team-high 10.19 assists per set while Kate Masberg has recorded a team-high 14 aces. Defensively, Becca Pagel leads the way with 4.25 digs per set and Madison Rizner has averaged 1.14 blocks per set.
As a team, the Warriors average 13.5 kills per set, 12.1 assists per set and 1.2 aces per set. On the defense, they average 15.2 digs per set and 2.0 blocks per set. Augustana holds a 21-12 overall record against Winona State but the Warriors have a 5-3 record while playing in Winona.
The Vikings (11-4, 4-2 NSIC)
Augustana is coming off splitting the weekend against No. 7 Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State.
Sophomore Avery Thorson recorded her seventh double-double against CSP when she recorded 28 assists and had 10 digs. Thorson averages 10.22 assists per set which ranks seventh in the NSIC and 31st in the nation.
Freshman Maddy Guetter recorded 10 kills which were tied for the team-high with Payton Rosendahl against Minnesota State. Guetter averages a team-high 3.14 kills per set while Rosendahl averages 2.06 kills per set.
Sophomore Abby Benson leads the way on the defensive side as she has sent back 47 total blocks (1.04 b/s) which ranks fifth in the NSIC and 47th in the nation. Freshman
Erika Bute ranks second in the NSIC with a team-high 5.93 digs per set.
One Last Thing
Freshman Kate Reimann has been a bright light for the Vikings in recent weeks. The Cottage Grove, Minnesota, native recorded a team-high 16 kills to help lead Augustana to a 3-1 win over Minot State and played in two sets against Minnesota State and compiled eight kills in the sweep. In 10 sets played she has averaged 3.50 kills per set on a .350 hitting percentage.
