Bute and Thorson Earn All-NSIC Second-Team Honors

BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- After compiling great seasons individually and as a team, sophomore Avery Thorson and freshman Erika Bute have been named to the All-NSIC Second Team announced Thursday by the league office.

Thorson, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, native, has led the team in assists the past two seasons. The sophomore setter has averaged 10.2 assists per set which ranks her sixth in the NSIC and 41st in the nation. Thorson has recorded nine double-doubles this season and recorded a career-high 50 assists against Minot State on Sept. 28. She currently is 52 assists from 2,000 career assists. 

Thorson had a career-high hitting percentage of .714 against then No. 15 Southwest Minnesota State while also picking up 39 assists, eight digs and six kills. She currently averages 1.18 kills per set and 2.67 digs per set. 

Bute, an Alden, Minnesota, native, has appeared in every set this season as the libero amassing 532 digs for 5.48 digs per set. The freshman has been ranked as high as fifth in the nation in digs per set and currently ranks second in the NSIC in digs per set. 

Bute recorded 24 digs in her debut as a Viking against Oklahoma Baptist and continued to improve grabbing 31 digs against Adams State and a season-high 37 against Westminster. Bute earned NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 30 after compiling 6.8 digs per set (75 total) against then No. 17 Wayne State, UMary and Minot State. She earned her second defensive player of the week honors after averaging 5.2 digs per set (56 total) in wins over Sioux Falls, UMary and Minot State. 

The Vikings look to extend their seven-match win streak this weekend against No. 7 Northern State on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday against MSU Moorhead at 5 p.m.
