Augustana Women’s Basketball Defeats Mount Marty 86-59

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's basketball team took down the Mount Marty Lancers, 86-59 Friday night inside the Elmen Center. 

With the win, the Vikings improve to 3-0 on the season while Mount Marty played the game as an exhibition and stays at 4-3 on the season. 

Augie jumped out to an early 7-2 lead after an Abby Hora layup but a Jamie Tebben long ball brought the lancers within two at 9-7. The Vikings used a 12-5 run capped off by an Izzy Van Veldhuizen triple extend the lead to 21-9, but the Lancers would cut into the lead and only trail 23-15 after one-quarter of play. 

The Lancers and Vikings traded 3-pointers back-and-forth to make the score 31-22 in favor of the Vikings. Augustana used a 13-5 run to extend the lead to 41-27 in the second stanza and a 7-2 run to finish the first half to take a 46-29 lead into the halftime break. 

The Vikings used its intense full-court pressure to force nine turnovers and cashed in for 12 points off those turnovers. The bench also came up big in the first half, scoring 14 points compared to Mount Marty's five.

Augustana opened its largest lead of the night after a Hora jumper brought the lead to 55-33 with 5:39 left in the third quarter. The Lancers used an 8-2 lead to end the third quarter cutting the Viking lead to 61-45 heading into the final quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, the Vikings took control and ended the momentum Mount Marty was building at the end of the third quarter. They outscored the Lancers 25-14 in the final frame with 17 of those points coming from the bench. Augie had its biggest lead of the game at 27 with under a minute to play to come away with the 86-59 victory. 

Augie was led by Hora with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field while Lauren Sees chipped in with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Vishe' Rabb rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Vikings as she recorded 10 points while Hana Metoxen recorded eight points and seven boards. 

As a team, the Vikings shot at a 45-percent clip from the field and 39.3 percent from deep. Defensively, Augie forced 17 turnovers and had 23 points off the turnovers. The Vikings dominated the paint with a 34-24 margin as well as 37 bench points to their 18 bench points.

The Vikings will take on Bellevue in their nonconference finale on Monday inside the Elmen Center at 5:30 p.m. Monday's game will also be a double-header with the men playing after the women.
