WAYNE, Neb. – A double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds from
Tyler Riemersma pushed the Augustana men's basketball team to a 75-66 win over Wayne State Saturday evening in Wayne, Nebraska.

Riemersma put the Vikings on his back near the midway point of the second half with Augustana trailing 52-49. The junior scored 11-straight points for Augie, trading baskets with the Wildcats before pushing a four-point advantage at 61-57 with 5:39 on the clock.

Augustana wins on the opening night of NSIC play to improve to 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference action. A three-game winning streak from Wayne State is snapped as it falls to 3-6, 0-1.

Joining Riemersma in double-digit scoring was sophomore
Michael Schaefer with 17 points and junior
Adam Dykman with 15 points. Sophomore
Matt Todd was the fourth and final Viking in double-figures at 14 points.

The Vikings built their lead to 11 points in the closing minutes before a late bucket brought the final margin of victory to nine points at 75-66. Dykman helped seal the game with 92 seconds remaining when he turned on the baseline for a dunk and old-fashioned 3-point play, pushing the Viking lead to nine points.

Augustana trailed 35-33 at halftime but used a 10-0 run stretching from the end of the first half into the first three minutes of the second half to push a 41-35 lead. Wayne State would push back and knot the game at 44-all and later took a two-point lead before Riemersma took over.

The Vikings dominated the rebounding game, 54-36, and totaled 25 offensive rebounds for 33 second-chance points. Schaefer joined Riemersma with a double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds while Dykman nearly had a double-double of his own with nine rebounds. Sophomore
Dylan LeBrun dished a game-high five assists.

Defensively, Augustana held Wayne State to 29.6 percent shooting in the second half on just eight made field goals. For the game, the Wildcats shot 40.4 percent from the field. Jordan Janssen led WSC with 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Vikings are now one of two teams in the NSIC to have six wins on their resume, joining Minot State.

Augustana returns home Friday and Saturday hosting Winona State and Upper Iowa, respectively. Both games are inside the Sanford Pentagon with Friday's tip at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
