Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls to Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Looking to sweep the weekend, the Augustana women's basketball team faced off with Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon, but an early 24-2 run from the Beavers proved too much for the Vikings as they fell 74-57. The Vikings fall to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the NSIC with the loss while Bemidji State improves to 5-4 and 2-3.

After a hot start to the game from Lauren Sees, in which she scored nine of the first 11 points for the Vikings to give them the 9-2 lead early, Augie hit a cold streak. BSU fought back to tie things up at 9-all after a 7-0 run early in the first quarter.

The Beavers continued their hot play taking a 17-11 lead after one-quarter of action. BSU extended its lead in the second quarter as it went on a 24-2 run. The Beavers huge run spanned through the first and second quarters to build a 26-11 lead with 7:18 remaining until half.

Augustana was finally able to break a nearly nine-minute scoring drought with a Lizzy Karp layup at the 6:49 mark in the second quarter to make the score 26-13 in favor of the home team.

The Vikings were able to cut the lead to single digits after another layup from Karp at 28-19. Unfortunately, the Beavers pushed back to double-digits and earned their largest lead of the game at 41-21 with just under 2 minutes before the half. A Danni Honner 3-pointer at the buzzer sent the Vikings into the half with a 44-27 deficit.

Augustana opened the second half with an 11-4 run capped by a Sees jumper to cut the score to 48-38 with just under eight minutes. BSU answered back with three straight 3-pointers to push the lead back to 19 at 59-40 and took a 65-49 lead into the final quarter of action.

Augustana held the Beavers to 27.3 percent shooting in the fourth quarter after BSU shot nearly 50 percent in the first half, but struggled offensively itself as the Vikings only shot 10 percent from the field in the fourth quarter.

Sees led all scorers for the second-straight game as she recorded a season-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Honner also chipped in with 10 points while Abby Hora finished with seven points.

The Vikings shot a season-low 33.3 percent from the field and 16 percent from deep while also allowing a season-high 47 percent shooting from the field.
