Vikings Fall To Cross-Town Rival

Augustana takes on SMSU Saturday at 3:30 p.m in the Elmen Center

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana Viking women's basketball team returned to the Elmen Center on Friday night with a 76-62 loss to Sioux Falls. The Vikings now go to 20-10 (12-9 NSIC) and Sioux Falls moves to 20-7 (15-6 NSIC).

Augustana was led by Shelby Selland with 20 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field. The senior went 3-of-8 from deep and grabbed four rebounds on the night. Selland has come back to start the last four games after an injury during the Southwest Minnesota State game on January 4th. Senior Lynsey Prosser also chipped in with 15 points and 9 boards for the Vikings.

The Vikings started the game strong with a Hana Metoxen three-pointer followed by a Abby Hora jumper to give the Vikings an early lead. After 10 minutes of play, Augustana trailed by 2, 21-19.

In the second quarter, the Vikings tied it up at 25 all until USF went on an 11-0 run. Camryn Hay would end the run with a layup to put the score at 36-27. Prosser went 1-of-2 from the line to cut the lead to 41-32 at the halftime break.

The Vikings started the second half on fire, as they brought the score to within four points at 44-40 with 6:50 left in the third quarter.

Augustana wouldn't let the Cougars blow the game open but at the same time weren't able to cut the deficit to single digits in the final period as USF outlasted Augustana for the win.

The Vikings shot 37.7 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from deep. The Vikings also grabbed 40 rebounds on the night.

Augustana is back in action on Saturday against SMSU with tip-off set for 3:30 p.m. at the Elmen Center.
