Augustana Takes Down City Rival Sioux Falls

Vikings defeat Sioux Falls 7-0

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's tennis team took down their city rival Sioux Falls (3-4, 3-4 NSIC), 7-0 at the Huether Family Match Pointe on Friday, March 1.

The Vikings (9-0, 7-0 NSIC) swept all six singles matches and won the doubles point against USF.

Starting in singles action, Kornelia Staniszewska defeated Chloe Jefferies 6-3, 6-1 for her 25th straight regular-season singles win. In No. 2 singles Laura Arce Vieyra took down Megan Quandt 6-4, 6-0 and Taylor Jackson picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lexi Miller.

Rounding out the singles action was Grace Goble, Anca Rusu and Annika Teske. Goble defeated Victoria Ambrosio-Cueto 6-0, 6-1, Rusu took down Joelle Thorfinnson 6-1,6-2 and Teske picked up the 6-0, 6-1 win over Kelsie Sanders.

In doubles play, Staniszewska and Arce Vieyra teamed up to take down Jefferies and Quandt 6-0. In No. 2 Doubles, Jackson and Rusu picked up the 6-1 win over Miller and Thorfinnson and in No. 3 Doubles Goble and Teske took down Sanders and Ambrosio-Cueto 6-0.

Overall, head coach Marc Kurtz thought the team came out and executed the game plans well.

"I thought we came out really strong and aggressive in doubles action today," Kurtz said. "That kind of set the tone for our match today. In singles, we were able to figure out our game plans and we executed well."

  • Vikings extended their conference win-streak to 106 games.
  • Augustana improved to 48-1 in singles action and 24-1 in doubles action on the season.
  • In NSIC action, the Vikings brought their singles record to 37-0 and their doubles record to 19-0.
  • Staniszewska brought her regular season singles win-streak to 25.
  • The Vikings have won 66 singles and doubles matches in a row this season.
  • Six-of-the-seven players are currently undefeated in singles action and five-of-the-seven players are currently undefeated in doubles action.
