Vikings End The Season With Loss To Minnesota Duluth in NSIC Tournament

Augustana falls 80-72 in the NSIC Quaterfinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team fell to Minnesota Duluth 80-72 in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament on Saturday, March 2 at the Sanford Pentagon. The Vikings end the season with a 22-11 record and a 13-9 record in conference play.

Augustana struggled to catch fire at the beginning of the game trailing by as many as 10 points until a Janelle Shiffler 3-pointer cut the lead to seven points. The Vikings would trail 21-14 going into the second quarter of action.

The second quarter seemed to be the same as the first for the Vikings as they weren't able to get anything going offensively. At the same time, they weren't allowing UMD to blow the game open early.

With just under two minutes to go before halftime, the Vikings were finally able to get things flowing on the offensive side for the first time. Vishe' Rabb capped off an 8-4 run to bring the lead to 33-27 as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Whatever momentum Augustana had going into the third quarter Minnesota Duluth took it away quick. The Bulldogs started the second half on a 9-0 run to put the lead to it's largest at 42-27 with just under eight minutes to go in the third quarter.

The Vikings didn't go away quietly though as they fought back from a double-digit deficit to make it a two-possession game late in the quarter. Augustana ended the third quarter on a 7-2 run to bring them within five points, 54-49 going into the final quarter of action.

In the fourth quarter, the Vikings would go on several mini-runs to keep the game close but weren't able to get the lead any smaller than five points.

In their final game as a Vikings, Shelby Selland finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds while Lynsey Prosser ended with 17 points, 7 boards and 3 steals. Senior Allie Walter also played her final game in a Viking uniform.
