SIOUX FALLS -- The Augustana women's tennis team returned home to host Minnesota State on senior night at the GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club on Saturday night. The Vikings picked up the 7-0 win over the Mavericks to improve to 15-2 (10-0 NSIC). Minnesota State fell to 5-14 (3-6 NSIC).
The No. 24 Vikings won all three of the doubles matches to claim the first point of the dual. The lone senior, Kornelia Staniszewska went 2-0 on the night with wins in No. 1 Doubles and No. 1 Singles action. Staniszewska extends her current singles match win streak to 33 and moves to 15-0 on the season in singles action and 15-0 in doubles play.
Staniszewska and Laura Arce Vieyra picked up the 6-1 win over Erin Streeter and Monika Ryan to earn their 15th win of the season in No. 1 Doubles. Taylor Jackson and Anca Rusu defeated Camila Ojeda and Tyanna Washa and Grace Goble and Annika Teske took down Abby Smith and Valerie Bresnahan 6-1 to secure the doubles point.
In singles action, the Vikings won five of the matches in straight sets and one via a forfeit on the night. Staniszewska won by retirement against Streeter while Arce Vieyra picked up the 6-1, 6-1 win over Ryan in No. 2 Singles action to make the score 3-0 Vikings.
In No. 3 Singles action, Jackson defeated Washa 6-1, 6-2 to pick up her 14th win of the season, Rusu took down Ojeda 6-0, 6-3 and Teske took care of business against Valerie Bresnahan 6-0, 6-1.
Rounding out the night Rebecca Falkner took down Lauren Goth 6-0, 6-1 to secure the seventh and final point for the Vikings.
ITA Rankings
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association came out with their second rankings of the season on March 27 and the Augustana women's tennis team moved up two spots to No. 24, the highest ranking in program history. The Vikings were previously ranked No. 26 in the first rankings of the season. Staniszewska moved three spots from last weeks ranking of No. 26, the senior is now currently ranked No. 23 in singles play in the nation. She is also ranked No. 5 in doubles play while teamed up with Arce Vieyra.Â
