KISSIMMEE, FLA. -- The No. 15 Augustana baseball team used a great pitching performance combined with a strong offensive attack to defeat Seton Hill 10-1 during the second day of action on their trip to Florida.
The Vikings took the first lead for the second straight game, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning following a
Ford Schroeder RBI single. Augustana tacked on a pair of runs in the third inning, stretching the lead to 3-0 on a
Riley Johnson RBI double and a
Ryan Nickel RBI groundout.
An anomalous play highlighted the fourth inning for the Vikings after a
JT Mix single and stolen base. Johnson squared to bunt as Mix broke for third and the bunt sailed over the first baseman's head for a bunt RBI single to right field.
Seton Hill added a run in the sixth inning to cut the lead to just three for Augustana, but in the eighth inning, the Vikings used patience at the plate and timely hitting for an offensive explosion of six runs. Five Augustana batters recorded RBI during the inning.
On the mound,
Seth Miller continued a hot start to the season by pitching seven full innings with eight strikeouts and zero earned runs on the way to his second win of the young season.
Augustana returns to action tomorrow with a pair of games against Grand Valley State (12:00 PM) and New York Tech (3:30 PM) in Kissimmee, Fla. at Osceola Heritage Park.
