2018-19 Viking Men's Basketball Award Winners Announced

Matt Cartwright named team MVP

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- With an impressive 2018-19 campaign in the books, the Augustana men's basketball team officially closed the chapter on the season at the annual team banquet. 

Sophomore Matt Cartwright took home a trio of awards, starting with Most Valuable Player. Named All-NSIC Second Team, the sharpshooter started and played and all 29 games for the Vikings this season. Cartwright led the team with 463 points, 16.0 points per game, and finished 12th in the NSIC in points per game.

One of Cartwright's best games of the season came in December of 2018 when he poured in a career-high 37 points against Minnesota Crookston. The forward also contributed 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in 2019. Cartwright was also named a team captain for the Vikings. 
 
Moving to defense, freshman Dylan LeBrun took home the top defensive award. LeBrun was one-of-two Vikings to play and start in all 29 games and led the team with 30 steals on the season. LeBrun finished third on the team with 5.6 rebounds per game and ended the year with 11 double-figure scoring games and one double-double.

Fellow freshman Trevor Hanson earned the Most Improved Player award. The Sioux Valley native made 19 starts and played in 29 overall for the Vikings. He led the team with 25 blocks on the year as well as an 89.5 free throw percentage. Hanson finished fifth on the team with 9.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Jameson Bryan took home the 2018-19 hustle award. Bryan had four games with multiple steals and provided a spark off the bench for the Vikings. Playing in all 29 games, he averaged 5.5 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per game and 2.2 assists per game.

NSIC Freshman of the Year A.J. Plitzuweit led the team with 104 assists, and Adam Dykman earned the coaches award for his energy and enthusiasm all season long. 
 
The Vikings also handed out the prestigious Larry "Borgie" Borgum Award, which is given to someone who exemplifies the dedication and support that the late Larry Borgum displayed towards Augustana basketball. Nate Dally, who is the Assistant Vice President for Annual Giving and Alumni Relations at Augustana, earned the 2019 Borgie award. Over the course of the season, Dally contributed countless hours helping the men's basketball reach their 2019 goals. 

The men's basketball team now turns their focus to the summer camp season, which begins on June 3, 2019, with the Little Viking Camp. Registration for all summer camps can be found here.
