Augustana Golf Places Second At NSIC Championships

The Vikings shot a three-round score of +43 (985)

MORTON, Minn. -- The Augustana women's golf team finished up the NSIC Championships in Morton, Minn., this past weekend with a second-place finish. Minnesota State won the tournament with a score of +88 (952) and earned the NSIC's automatic bid to the NCAA Central Super Regional on May 6-8.

The Vikings carded a three-round score of +121, 985 throughout the weekend to finish in second. Augustana shot a 330 and a 324 after the first 36 holes on Friday and finished it up with a 331 on Sunday. The Vikings were 33 strokes behind the Mavericks and finished 10 strokes ahead of Minot State for second place.

Hannah Hankinson led the team and placed third in a field of 59 total golfers after she turned in a three-round score of 237. She finished at +21 (82, 77, 78). McKayla Poppens who tied for eighth place shot a pair of 79s after the first day and an 84 on the final day to finish at +26 (242).

Alex Stone tied for 14th place after moving up after the first two rounds. She fired off a round of 82, 83 and 84 to total +33, 249 during the championships. Kait Asklund shot an 87, 85 and 88 and finished tied for 25th with a +44 (260). Annemarie Fisher finished in 33rd place with a three-round score of 268 for +52 (92, 91, 85).

The Vikings will wait to hear their name called on Monday, April 29 when the entire field for the NCAA Women's Golf Championships will be announced on NCAA.com.
