Vikings Season Ends with 4-1 Loss to Northwest Missouri State

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Augustana women's tennis team (19-3, 11-0 NSIC) sees their NCAA Tournament run come to an end, falling 4-1 to Northwest Missouri State in the first round of the Central Region II Tournament on Monday, May 13.

In No. 2 Singles action, Laura Arce Vieyra defeated Tania Teruel 6-1, 6-2 to pick up the only point of the day for the Vikings. The freshman finished the season with a 16-1 record on the season in singles play.

In her last match as a Viking, Kornelia Staniszewska played the No. 17 ranked singles player Irene Recuenco tough but they weren't able to finish the match after a score of 1-6, 6-2, 4-3 UNF.

Augustana wraps up their Spring season clinching their 10th straight Northern Sun Conference regular season title and their ninth straight NSIC Tournament title. Staniszewska earned her fourth straight NSIC Player of the Year award while Arce Vieyra earned NSIC Freshman of the Year honors.

As a team, the Vikings finished the season with a 93-18 singles record and a 57-1 record in conference play. In doubles play, they finished with a 50-12 record overall and a 30-1 record in doubles action.
